Pain is the greatest teacher. It’s the intention of the soul to experience it to know it, and then move through it and see it from a different vantage point and to learn. These lessons are patterns of energy. We can take the lessons and the darkness and transmute them into light. We can transform ourselves by the renewing of our minds and the higher understanding of why things happen. Sending you love.

@hiltonaruba works with @lunafoundation to bring dog yoga to the resort! The foundation is named after Luna, the first dog in Aruba's history to be removed from an abusive home and the owner to be arrested for abuse. The foundation brings food, shelter and medical care to Aruba’s stray dogs, and the goal of the class is to bring awareness to the foundation and hopefully have the dogs adopted.

Day 12 of #alowarriors is #hollowback
.
We are not the person we once were, and we’re not the person we will become. As we move through life, our conditioning guides us to resist or surrender to any given experience... When we are confronted with fear, life is giving us an opportunity to rise to the challenge. The source of our pain and vulnerability is also the source of our power.
.
Hollowbacks are scary! Our weight goes back where we can’t see. This pose teaches us to trust our strength and find the courage to move further into that strength. It all starts from grounding into the floor with strong shoulders. You are your own rock and the foundation of your strength. Use a wall behind you if you need it, to learn to trust yourself.

Day 11 of #AloWarriors is #handstand
.
All emotions are good for us... even the negative ones. Sadness, anger, fear, are all telling us something. We can wallow and suffer, or we can really pay attention to why we are feeling these things, and open ourselves to the possibilities around us for change, using our emotions to fuel and inspire us.
.
So why am I talking about this now? My coach @handstand_with_virgile cares about me a lot. He’s seen me go through so much in my personal life. There were times where I was sad, and he was wondering why I wasn’t angry, because he was soooo angry for me about what was going on. He told me to feel everything and use it in my handstands. To actually get angry and push the floor away and grip it. When I was learning to pike press, for awhile it was hit or miss... I pictured people in my head and said “f@&! you and you” and pushed my hands into the floor with more fight and energy and it worked to press up! Saying namaste God loves you and I still love you from afar just didn’t get me to press 😂 So channel whatever you are feeling to give yourself a spark of energy, and that kick in the butt to motivate you to be stronger. 💪🏻

Day 10 of #AloWarriors is #Mayurasana
.
If you’re not failing sometimes, then you’re probably not pushing yourself enough...
.
To be honest, I don’t love this pose. In the ashtanga second series, this is definitely one that I struggle with! I muddle my way through it, make excuses about how my anatomy doesn’t work for this and move on. And I don’t photograph it because it’s not flattering and my face looks like a tomato that’s about to pop!
.
But recently I’ve been embracing what I’m not good at... using failure as an opportunity to learn, to set a new trajectory, to build a solid foundation and develop new strength in what I used to avoid. This pose requires tenacity. You have to grip the floor like you mean it and engage everything you have to lift up and stay, so that as you move your arm forward, you move softly and with control without throwing off your balance. You can practice with the legs in a diamond shape or lotus for a lighter lift.
